Trip Details
A valley glacier pouring into a large lagoon, Ellsworth Glacier was once the longest glacier flowing from the Sargent Icefield.
Join us on a private wildlife boat tour from Seward into the remote fjord, where a transformation occurs. The stillness and sheer forces of nature are palpable. We’ll be dropped off on a beach in Day Harbor, Seward, Alaska, where our hike begins.
As we weave through different forest types, all evidence of the recent glacial past, we’ll learn about how geology shapes the flora and fauna here. But it’s not just the history of this place, it’s all happening in real-time – now. When we step out of the tranquil woods onto the shore of Ellsworth’s glacial lagoon, you’ll be sure to feel the humbling power of nature, and how much momentum it has as we enter exposed waters.
We work with a knowledgeable local captain who runs a small, 6-passenger landing craft. Your private trip includes an exclusive water taxi ride, not shared with any other travelers. Your safety is our top priority and the exact route for the boat tour will be determined by sea conditions, but will include sightseeing. The captain will keep an eye out for wildlife along the way and show you the highlights of our incredible fjord country.
Potential for seasickness on a wildlife boat tour as we enter exposed waters.
