Tour Resurrection Bay and Hike Rugged Island
As its name implies, the most exposed of Resurrection Bay’s barrier islands is subject to the raw power of the Gulf of Alaska. As you depart the Seward Harbor, your private water taxi will carry you towards a seemingly endless Pacific Ocean; if we had enough fuel to keep going, we’d hit Hawaii. As you cruise through the bay, look for wildlife both in the water and the air. Harbor seals, sea otters, and occasionally whales feed beneath a sky of kittiwakes, puffins, and eagles.
With a clear day, the ride offers views of Bear Glacier and the Aialik Peninsula, before landing on an undeniably rugged shoreline. Perched atop this island sits Fort Bulkley, a World War II fortification that served as home to US soldiers on the lookout for invaders. We’ll follow a gentle trail to these ruins as we talk more about the past, present, and future of this storied place.

We work with a knowledgeable local captain who runs a small, 6-passenger landing craft. Your private trip includes an exclusive water taxi ride, not shared with any other travelers. Your safety is our top priority and the exact route for the boat tour will be determined by sea conditions, but will include sightseeing. The captain will keep an eye out for wildlife along the way and show you the highlights of our incredible fjord country.
Potential for seasickness on a wildlife boat tour as we enter exposed waters.
